*Principalities is the plural of principality which are spiritual beings or rulers, better known as angels or demons. These angels are ranked seventh overall; Biblically seven is symbolic for completeness.
ORIGINS OF PRINCIPALITIES AND HA-SATAN
The Bible tells us that the angels were created before the Creation. Originally, all angels were good, but as humans, they were also given freewill. In Job 38:4,7, G-d gives the knowledge that angels were around before creation when He questioned Job stating: "Where were you when I founded the Earth? Tell me if you know so much. Do you know who determined its dimensions or who stretched the measuring line across it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars (angels) sang (praised/exalted) together, and all the sons of G-d (angels) shouted for joy?"
Before the fall of ah-Satan was described in Ezekiel 28:12-19: "Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord G-D: “You were the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of G-d;
every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared. You were an anointed guardian cherub. I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of G-d; in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.
Note: Some say this scripture is about a human king, however it is not because the scripture is talking about a guardian cherub, humans cannot be angels.
In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of G-d, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries; so I brought fire out from your midst; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you. All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have come to a dreadful end and shall be no more forever.”
Note: Some versions of Ezekiel 28:13 read: “The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created." Which is where we develop the assumption that ah-Satan was a master musician.
These scriptures basically tell us that ha-Satan was the head honcho and guardian of the Earth; at least Eden. It is believed he let his power go to his head and this is when he lost his wisdom and power and was cast out of Heaven by G-d along with one third of the angel population (Revelation 12:4), which were deemed fallen angels.
Now, ha-Satan himself "masquerades as an angel of light" which he once was but know he carries on in this fashion to deceive (2 Corinthians 11:14).
The Adversary decided to declare his greatness over G-d's in which Isaiah 14:12-15 recounts the story: "How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of G-d I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the Mount of Assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit (what most people refer to as Hell).
Ha-Satan is destined to fail and he simply will not except it because of his arrogance and pride. The Book of Revelation sheds much light on the issue of ha-Satan and his demonic host; how they fell and what will happen when Yeshua returns.
