Element Blessing Basics
While blessing elements can be scriptural it is important that we remember that the elements are not what is doing the protecting, casting out, or healing it is the power of G-d. If we allow the elements to become the focal point of our supernatural assistance instead of God himself we then begin idolizing the elements; which would have no power without G-d and would bring us to sin. Below are description or uses of popular elements. It is important to know that any believer of God is given authority by G-d. However only those who are informed and experienced should deal with cursed elements or perform exorcisms. This is because inexperienced persons can cause more harm than good.
Communion/Eucharist: Bread and fruit of the vine. Partaking of the Holy Communion has provided healing for many people that partake of the bread and fruit of the vine.
The Lord's Supper - 1 Corinthians 11:17-34
But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part, for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized. When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal. One goes hungry, uanother gets drunk. What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not. For received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world. So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another-- if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home—so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. About the other things I will give directions lwhen I come.
Salt: is used in many cultures to ward of malevolent spirits. Prayer for salt exorcism and blessing is as follows:
Salt Exorcism
O salt, creature of God, I exorcise you by the living God, by the true God, by the holy God, by the God who ordered you to be poured into the water by Eliseus the Prophet so that its life-giving powers might be restored. I exorcise you so that you may become a means of salvation for believers, that you may bring health of soul and body to all who make use of you, arid that you may put to flight and drive away from the places where you are sprinkled every apparition, villainy, and turn of devilish deceit, and every unclean spirit, adjured by Him Who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire. Amen.
Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, we humbly implore Thee, in Thy immeasurable kindness and love, to bless + and sanctify + this salt which Thou did create and give over to the use of mankind, so that it may become a source of health for the minds and bodies of all who make use of it, and may rid whatever it touches or sprinkles of all uncleanness and protect it from every assault of evil spirits. Through our Lord, Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. R. Amen.
Salt Blessing
Minister: "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit"
Response: "Amen"
Minister: "God's creature, salt, I cast out the demon from you by the living God, + by the true God, + by the holy God, + by God who ordered you to be thrown into the water-springs by Eliseus to heal it of its barrenness. May you be a purified salt, a means of health for those who believe, a medicine for body and soul for all who make use of you. May all evil fancies of the foul fiend, his malice and cunning, be driven afar from the place where you are sprinkled. And let every unclean spirit be repulsed by Him who is coming to judge both the living and the dead and the world by fire. Amen."
"Almighty, everlasting God, we humbly appeal to your mercy and goodness to bless this creature, salt, which you have given for mankind's use. May all who use it find a remedy for body, mind and soul. And may everything it touches be freed from uncleanness and any influence of the evil spirit; through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Water: is often synonymous with the Holy Spirit and is used in baptisms or exorcisms.
Prayer for water exorcism and blessing is as follows:
Water Exorcism
O water, creature of God, I exorcise you in the name of God the Father almighty, and in the name of Jesus Christ His Son, our Lord, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. I exorcise you so that you may put to flight all the power of the Enemy, and be able to root out and supplant that Enemy with his apostate angels: through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by lire. Amen.
Let us pray.
O God, Who for the salvation of mankind has built Thy greatest mysteries on this substance, water, in Thy kindness hear our prayers and pour down the power of Thy blessing + into this element, made ready for many kinds of purifications. May this, Thy creature, become an agent of divine grace in the service of Thy mysteries, to drive away evil spirits and dispel sickness, so that every- thing in the homes and other buildings of the faithful that is sprinkled with this water may be rid of all uncleanness and freed from every harm. Let no breath of infection, no disease-bearing air, remain in these places. May the wiles of the lurking Enemy prove of no avail. Let whatever might menace the safety and peace of those who live here be put to flight by the sprinkling of this water, so that the healthfulness, obtained by calling upon Thy holy name, may be made secure against all attack. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
R. Amen.
The minister mixes a little salt into the water.
May a mixture of salt and water now be made in the name of the Fa + ther, and of the + Son, and of the Holy + Spirit.
R. Amen.
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.
Let us pray.
O God, Creator unconquerable, invincible King, Victor ever-glorious, Who did hold in check the forces bent on dominating us, Who did overcome the cruelty of the raging enemy, Who did in Thy power beat down the wicked foe:
Humbly and fearfully do we pray to Thee, O Lord, and we ask Thee to look with favor on this salt and water which Thou has created. Shine on it with the light of Thy kindness. Sanctify it by the dew of Thy love, so that, through the invocation of Thy holy name, wherever this water and salt is sprinkled it may turn aside every attack of the unclean spirit and dispel the terror of the poisonous serpent. And wherever we may be, make the Holy Spirit present to us who now implore Thy mercy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
R. Amen."
**The blessing for Holy Water from the Roman Ritual will not be useful here, because Holy Water is usually made in large quantities in 5 or 10 gallon vats with a spigot at the bottom. It is usually made in the church Sacristy, and involves Blessed Salt and some lengthy prayers. The thinking here is, if you have "Blessed Water" in your parish rather than Holy Water, it would be impractical to carry a new quantity of water, the Blessed Salt, and the proper prayers into the church or Rectory, and ask to have Holy Water made to order.
Oil: is biblical used in healing the sick, baptism, and confirmations. An oil blessing follows:
Olive Oil Blessing (not Holy Chrism which includes balsam.)
Priest: "Lord God Almighty, before whom the hosts of angels stand in awe, and whose heavenly service we acknowledge; may it please you to regard favorably and to bless and hallow this creature, oil, which by your power has been pressed from the juice of olives. You have ordained it for anointing the sick, so that, when they are made well, they may give thanks to you, the living and true God. Grant we pray, that those who will use this oil, which we are blessing in your name, may be delivered from all suffering, all infirmity, and all wiles of the enemy."
"God's creature, oil, I cast out the demon from you by God the Father + almighty, who made heaven and earth and sea, and all that they contain. Let the adversary's power, the devil's legions, and all Satan's attacks and machinations be dispelled and driven afar from this creature, oil."
"Let it bring health in body, mind and soul to all who use it, in the name of God. + the Father almighty, and of our Lord Jesus + Christ, His Son, and of the Holy + Spirit, the Advocate, as well as in the love of the same Jesus Christ Lord, who is coming to judge both the living and the dead and the world by fire."
"Let it be the means of averting any kind of adversity from man, made in your image and redeemed by the precious blood of your Son, so that he may never again suffer the sting of the ancient serpent; through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Sage: is usually used by New Age Movement follower and witches and is highly recommended that you do not use this element. The use of sage has limited protective qualities and usually only makes malevolent entities angrier. Thus, the unnecessary use of sage while undoubtedly put the user in harms way.
Jewelry, Charms, etc.: have no useful purpose to my knowledge or experience. A crucifix may be useful but in some instances, such as exorcisms. Also, rosary beads are a tool of comfort and have no power or blessings powers. It is important not to own or be around those who own foreign artifacts such as African mask or Egyptian jewelry. These items are known to be cursed or used in blessing foreign gods and demigods. This is not superstitious but wisdom these curses or unclean spirit can inhabit or oppress anyone who is not guarded with the hedge of G-d's protection. If you are not walking in the Word the curses of objects can then curse you. The best thing to do is never be around such object and more importantly be in the Word.
